The Importance of Advocacy Awareness Week – From the Trustee Board

As Chair of the Trustee board for Autistic Nottingham, I don’t get the confidential reports of individual clients, but what I do have is visibility over the impact of advocacy across the organization. Furthermore I see comments come in from other areas on our social media such as “we have nothing like this where we are“ and asking us if we can extend our reach.

I see advocacy as changing peoples lives, as being important for them to be able to complete forms, to attend meetings, and to express their needs when they cannot do so by themselves. Advocacy solves problems, it is a solution for peoples isolation, and helps them to get done what they need to get done and to work with the various statutory agencies and authorities in a functional way.
